Leading Teachers to Prioritize Standards
Guest User
Welcome back to our Leading Accelerated Learning series! Today’s post is edition #3 of our five-part series.
The evidence is clear that speeding through grade level standards and rushing to fill ‘gaps’ in learning will not help students recover and thrive after COVID disruptions. To avoid this issue, the school leader must ensure time and support for teacher teams to revise grade-level and content area scope and sequence documents to align with priority standards. Luckily, a huge part of this critical work has been done by Achieve the Core. Achieve the Core has identified the priority content in ELA and math that should be the focus of Learning Acceleration instruction. Their guidance works in conjunction with state standards and supports teacher planning and decision making with the following:
Naming instructional standards at each grade level that should be prioritized and emphasized.
Suggesting ways standards can be integrated, eliminated, limited, incorporated, or combined to allow more time with priority standards.
Offering means to promote social, emotional, and academic development within grade-level learning.
This guidance is something that all instructional leaders and teachers must take advantage of to successfully implement Learning Acceleration for all students.
We invite you to visit the Achieve the Core Priority Instructional Content resource for more information.
