Reality and Optimism CAN Co-Exist!

TXTS4 Leaders List

Reality and Optimism CAN Co-Exist!

Guest User

It’s early December 2021, and the promised return to normalcy has morphed into an ever-expanding list of Greek alphabet letters.  There is no use in sugar-coating the fact that many school leaders have been battered on multiple fronts this school year.

Yet, we all continue to do the work, and the way we arrive at how to keep going is as unique as our individual thumbprints.

A superintendent who reached his breaking point early this fall shares his four-step process for stepping back to find a sense of realistic optimism.

  1. Realization: Come to terms with the reality of the situation.

  2. Articulation: Be vulnerable and honest about your situation with your leaders.

  3. Clean the plate: Focus on what needs to be done and let the rest go.

  4. Seek joy in the work: Identify what brings you joy and schedule those activities into your calendar.

We invite you to read the full Edutopia article, “How School Leaders Can Build Realistic Optimism this Year” by PJ Caposey (2021 November 24).

Finally, TXTS4 Leaders will return in January 2022.  We wish you the warmth of family and friends, and the knowledge that you are doing the most important work of this historical time.
