Strengthening the Learning Acceleration Home-School Partnership

Guest User

Welcome back to our Leading Learning Acceleration series! Today’s post is the final edition of our five-part series.

As a Learning Acceleration leader, you are committed to ensuring every student has access to grade level content, strong instruction, and a sense of belonging. You also understand the value of school-home partnerships to support students as they recover from the pandemic and to boost learning in the years ahead. Here are five essentials for you to consider as you build school-home partnerships:

  1. Establish strong two-way communication with every parent. What information is essential to communicate? How will information be communicated?

  2. Ensure parents trust the school. What are some ways you and teachers can create trusting relationships with parents?

  3. Ensure parents and teachers have a shared understanding of student performance. Almost 90% of parents believe their child is performing at or above grade level. How can you help parents and teachers have a shared understanding of where students are academically so they can work together? How might families receive accurate and accessible information about students’ progress?

  4. Help parents know how to use learning resources. How can you support grade level teams in providing opportunities for parents to learn about and practice using resources?

  5. Create conditions, and build teacher capacity, for home-teacher partnerships. What conditions can you foster that allow teachers to be successful in their efforts to partner with parents? How might you reduce the anxiety teachers feel about home-school partnerships?
