Metacognition is an Important Leadership Skill
Guest User
Benjamin Franklin said, “There are three things that are extremely hard: steel, a diamond, and to know one’s self.” As leaders, it is imperative that we hone our skill of metacognition. Theodore Kinni writes that metacognition is literally your ability to think about your own thinking. It is our mind’s capability to remember, perceive, decide, think, and feel. Our metacognitive acumen is linked to important leadership skills including problem-solving, critical thinking, and learning. Consider ways to improve your metacognition skills by visiting Kinni’s article “Leader, Know Thyself” (22 April 2021).
Today’s post is our final one for this school year, which has been one like no other. We know you have worked hard and lost sleep as you navigated your school, district, or team through a rapidly changing educational landscape. We hope in some small way we supported your leadership during it all. Here’s to a joyful end of the school year and time for rest and rejuvenation.
