Steve Watson is a native of Arizona. Until starting his first term as Maricopa County School Superintendent on January 1, 2017, he taught Career Technical Education for the Deer Valley Unified School District. Mr. Watson taught middle and high school students for the prior 14 years.

The Superintendent is a proud product of Maricopa County public schools. He attended schools in the Cartwright, Alhambra, Washington, and Glendale Union High School districts. Upon graduation, he enrolled in the Maricopa County Community College District. He attended Glendale Community College, before transferring to the University of Arizona. Mr. Watson has a B.A. in Spanish and a M.A. in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Steve and his wife Tessa have been married 20 years and are the proud parents of six children – all who attend public schools in Maricopa County. Mr. Watson is committed to providing the best educational opportunities to all students in Maricopa County whether they attend public, charter, private or homeschool.

Superintendent Watson also believes volunteer civic duty is an important responsibility. He serves as a precinct committeeman in Legislative District 15 located in north Phoenix and is active in Boy Scouts and his church.
