Every day teachers make magic through relationships, lessons, and activities. Often these stories are not told outside of the walls of the classroom or school. Maricopa County School Superintendent Steve Watson tells as many people as possible about great things happening in schools. His video series Where's Watson elevates the kind of teaching and learning that inspires and prepares students of Maricopa County.

Students are at the heart of Williams Field High School in the Higley Unified School District. Through their student-led initiatives, they developed Wish Week, an event to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. What started out as a small idea has evolved into multiple granted wishes and has created an enriched culture among classmates, staff and community members. Join Steve as he celebrates their accomplishments and joins in on the fun.
At Hope Academy High School in downtown Phoenix, student voice is driving the creation of electives and coursework.
This has led to high levels of interest and engagement for both students and teachers as they explore projects and experiences including photography, strategy games, yoga, guitar, art, dance, virtual reality, music production, car maintenance, and even "Phoenix on Foot," a newly-created integrated PE and civics elective that brings students out to connect with the community.
The result... highly motivated students and an inherent joy that surrounds the learning.
Steve Watson visits Poston Outfitters, a thrift boutique right on the campus of Poston Junior High School in Mesa Public Schools. Students and teachers share their excitement for a store that unifies the campus and provides students a community to identify with. Learn more about this experience that rewards positive behavior, teaches students soft skills and blesses the entire school.
Steve Watson visits Bioscience High School (Phoenix Union High School District) is a unique and collaborative small school that uses project-based learning and personalization to inspire students. Learn more about the successful internship program and community partnerships they have created to expose students to authentic scenarios and help prepare them for the future.
Steve Watson visits Dobson High School in Mesa Public Schools to learn more about the Pawsitive Peers Program. This unique and high-impact program matches rescue dogs and staff members and provides obedience and therapy training. Following testing and approval by the Pet Partners Therapy Animal Program, these dog therapy teams are incorporated into classroom and campus life as a social-emotional learning support. They assist with everything from addressing stress, anxiety and isolation to serving as a source of connection, joy, and unconditional love.
The Avondale Elementary School District in Avondale, Arizona features a student-created art walk that empowers to themselves around what they see, feel, and believe about their Kids at Hope philosophy. Students check out cameras, capture images that are important to them, and journal. This results in thousands of photographs lining the walls of the district office. These beautiful images and stories represent what is in the hearts and minds of the students, the connections that are important to them, and how they envision themselves in the future.
Steve Watson spent a morning with students in the Fire Science and Law Enforcement CTE programs at Valley Vista High School in the Dysart Unified School District. These are just two of the many CTE pathways offered by the district, providing opportunities for students to acquire real-world skills through hands-on learning and internship opportunities.
Kiser Elementary and the entire Paloma Elementary School District were happy to share with Superintendent Watson how their district has a positive impact on the entire community.
Superintendent Watson visits Bogle Junior High School in the Chandler Unified School District to learn about their What I Need (WIN) Program in which students can utilize their voice in exploring what interests them during the school day.
The Child-Oriented Occupational Program (COOP) at Cactus High School in Peoria Unified School District gives both high school students and preschoolers a unique opportunity to work together using early childhood education standards. Superintendent Watson visited to see how they make it work and how all of the students are benefitting from this program.

Maricopa County School Superintendent Steve Watson recently visited Porter Elementary School in the Mesa School District to learn how they incorporate student voice into meaningful problem solving that directly affects their school.
